About me
Hello. I’m Elaine.
I’m an HCPC-registered therapist and EMDR practitioner based in Brighton and Hove.
Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from carrying things alone. Often, they’re living with the lasting effects of trauma, anxiety, loss or difficult experiences that feel hard to understand or shift.
My background
My background is in NHS mental health services and specialist settings. I worked as a Music Therapist with adults living with trauma, depression, anxiety and significant emotional complexity.
Much of my work involved supporting people through experiences that were hard to put into words, including difficulties that didn’t fit neatly into a diagnosis or label.
This experience shapes how I listen and respond as a therapist. I pay close attention not only to what someone says, but to what they’re communicating emotionally — and to how they’re feeling at that moment.
It also deepened my understanding of how trauma and difficult life experiences can continue to affect emotions, relationships and a person’s sense of self — long after the event.
Why EMDR?
Over time, I saw that for some people, insight alone wasn’t enough to create lasting change. That’s what drew me towards EMDR.
One of the things I value most about EMDR is its ability to reduce the emotional charge connected to painful experiences. People often describe feeling less overwhelmed and less caught up in old patterns. They say they’re more able to respond to life in ways that feel calmer, freer and more like themselves.
If that sounds like something you’re looking for, I’d be glad to hear from you.
